Dear Participant,
You are invited to participate in a research study on emotional and behavioral strategies in dealing with problems, difficulties or setbacks at work.
Participation involves completing two short surveys. This first survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. The second survey will be very short, taking only about 5 minutes to complete and will be sent to you four weeks after completion of the first survey.
Please note that you must be at least 18 years old to participate and not part of any kind of legal support programme (e.g. you have not been appointed a legal guardian or any form of legal supervision). Furthermore, you must currently be in salaried employment to be a part of this study. Please do not proceed with the survey if you do not hold down paid employment at the moment.
Confidentiality
Participation is voluntary and you are free to withdraw or abandon at any step in the processing of the online survey, without giving any reason and without any consequences. Any data you might have entered before you decided to withdraw or abandon the survey will be deleted and not to be analyzed. All information collected for the purpose of the study will remain confidential and data will only be reported in an aggregate format (by reporting combined results and never reporting individual results).
Once collected, the data will be stored in a secure database and no third party other than the primary investigator (listed below) will have access to this data. After completion of the study, the data will be deleted by the primary investigator.
For our research question, it is essential that we contact you a second time. You will be asked to provide us with your email address to which we will assign a unique ID for you to access the first of two surveys. Your address needs to be paired with your unique ID number so that within-person data is useable. However, your email address will not be included in the actual dataset and the database that contains the association between email addresses and ID numbers will be deleted after the data collection. Your email address will only be available to the primary investigator and will be kept secure. Under no circumstances will your email address be made public. At the end of the research project your email address will be deleted.
Benefits
Once the study has been completed, we will be happy to send you a written report on the main research findings. Furthermore, upon the completion of this study, participants will be entered in a lottery with the chance of winning one of two $50 vouchers. Participants who win one of the two vouchers will be contacted by email.
Finally, your participation in this study will contribute to work and organizational psychology research and to our understanding of emotional and behavioral strategies in dealing with problems, difficulties or setbacks at work and of personal characteristics that facilitate coping with negative situations at work.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this study, please feel free to contact the primary investigator of this study, Dr. Antje Schmitt, aschmitt@uni-kassel.de.
If you are willing to take part in this research project, please click "continue" at the bottom of this consent form to complete the first survey.
